Christmas Ball with Tassles

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMMENCING WORK*
MATERIALS:
Size 9 beads from OLAF: 1 bag each of Dark Blue Iridescent
(87), Red (25), Gold (22) and Pearl White (121).
White quilting thread
A
size 10 crewel needle
A 20mm pressed cotton ball
ABBREVIATIONS:
jo1 = jump over one bead and sew into the next one.
/ = sew into the middle bead of the next bow.
R = Red, B= Blue, G = Gold ,W = White
N.B. Sew on through 2 beads at the end of each row unless
otherwise instructed.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Take 1 G bead onto doubled thread and secure with a
button-hole stitch over the bead. Add 7 G and make into
a ring by sewing back through the 1st bead again.
2. 3G jo1.
3. 5G/.
4. 3G jo1, 3B into 2nd bead of the next bow.
5. 3B/. At this stage, pin the work around the ball,
and work around the shape.
6. 1W1G1W/ 2B1G2B/.
7. 2G1W into 2nd, 1B1G1B jo1, 1W2G/.
8. 2G1W/ 1W2G/ 3R/.
9. 1W1G1W/ 2G1R/ 1R2G/.
10. 1W/ 3G/ 1W/.Don't sew on at the end.
11. (missing the single G beads):2B1W/ 1W2B/(into G
of row 9)
12. 3B/ 1B/
13. (Missing single B beads):3G/.
Draw in the middle beads to close and secure the thread
before working the handle:
HANDLE:
Start with the needle coming out an edge bead of the
last row:Thread on 20G 1W 1R 1W 20 G and sew into the
opposite bead on the other side of the ball. Sew through
the handle again to strengthen it. Secure thread with
a button-hole stitch before trimming.
TASSLES:
Rejoin thread onto one of the gold beads in the beginning
row. Add on: 12B 4W 4R. Missing out the 4 R beads, take
the needle back up through all the other beads to form
a tassle.(Don't pull too tightly or the tassle won't
hang nicely). Thread through to the next G bead on the
base row. Repeat for 8 tassles in all. Secure the thread
before trimming.
